15 entire years ago today & fresh off the global success of Entourage, the executive producers of the series Mark Wahlberg & Stephen Levinson enlisted the creator of the original Israeli series Be’Tipul Hagai Levi along with Rodrigo Garcia to create a dramedy series that has never been done before on North American television, let alone on HBO.
They wanted to make a series that would make history for becoming the first ever multinight series outside of the miniseries genre ever to be aired on premium television.
Enter In Treatment.
The series initially had Gabriel Byrne (who also made history for becoming the first European actor ever to topline an HBO series) as psychotherapist Dr. Paul Weston for the series’ first 3 seasons, then Dr. Brooke Taylor (Uzo Aduba) for the last, speaking to their clients in Baltimore, NYC & LA about their issues, crises & problems that plague their lives.
The series also featured Melissa George (Laura), Blair Underwood (Alex), newcomer Mia Wasikowska (Sophie), Josh Charles (Jake), Embeth Davidtz (Amy), Dr. Gina Toll (Dianne Wiest), Mia (Hope Davis), April (Alison Pill), Oliver & his mom & dad, Walter (the late John Mahoney), Sunil (the late Irrfan Khan), Frances (Debra Winger), Jesse (Dane DeHaan), Eladio (Anthony Ramos), Colin (John Benjamin Hickey), Laila (Quintessa Swindell), Adam (Joel Kinnaman) & Rita (Liza Colon Zayas).
The series was never that much a ratings monster nor it was heavily promoted, but it managed to win several awards, including 2 Primetime Emmys, a Golden Globe for Byrne, a WGA award & a Peabody award.
